Setting Goals & Staying Motivated!

Tim Moss

Do you have trouble setting goals & staying motivated to achieve them?

This is a really common concern for most people, how to go about setting goals & staying motivated to continue working towards them. It's tough, sometimes the goals you set don't motivate you, sometimes it seems like you're getting nowhere, and sometimes life changes and you're just not motivated towards those goals anymore.

We get it, things change, life gets in the way, your motivations change. So we've put together a few research supported ways to help you when setting goals & staying motivated to keep working toward them, when things get in the way.

  1. Set realistic goals: while it's great to set massive goals to work towards, your goals should be realistic. The timeframe and achievement should be something that challenges you, but something that is a realistic possibility for you to achieve.

  2. Set timeframes: setting timeframes is important, allowing yourself unlimited time to achieve goals doesn't help maintain motivation.

  3. Set goals that are meaningful to you: set goals that have deep, meaningful reasons for you wanting to achieve them. Not just shallow or superficial goals. Think about what you really want to achieve, think about the things you've wanted to achieve for a long time.

  4. Break it down: break your large, long-term goals into smaller, medium term goals. Then break those down into smaller, short-term goals.

  5. Celebrate: celebrate every goal, even if it's just a small step towards your large goal, celebrate it! This improves motivation.

  6. Understand your why: understand why you've set these goals, what is driving you, why that specific goal, why that timeframe. Understanding this can help you understand what's driving you to achieve these.

  7. Have support: tell your friends, family and those close to you what you're trying to achieve, when you want to achieve them by and let them know how they can help you along the way.

  8. Have a visual representation of your goals: a goal board, or a written list of your goals on display will help remind you of what you need to do. This will help improve your motivation each day.

These are just a few simple tips that can help you when setting goals & staying motivated to keep working towards them each day!
