Conquering Common Fitness Plateaus: Reignite Your Journey

Fitness Plateaus are all too common, we all experience them. But how do you ensure that they are not derailing your training, or compromising your journey to meet your goals. How do we go about conquering common fitness plateaus? Well, first let's take a look at the common fitness plateaus that people experience in their health and fitness journeys:

  1. Lack of Motivation.

  2. Lack of Social Support.

  3. Feeling uncomfortable.

  4. Lack of self-confidence.

  5. Insufficient time to exercise.

  6. Fear of injury.

  7. Boredom or not enjoying the activity.

  8. Cost of exercise programs or gym.

These are the 8 most common reasons people struggle to start or maintain a fitness routine. So how can we overcome each of these?:

  1. Lack of Motivation: Finding exercise we enjoy or people who we can exercise with is a great way to get around this, using rewards as a start can also work, but we don't want to become reliant on only exercising when we are rewarded.

  2. Lack of Social Support: Speak to your friends and family about your goals and why you're conducting exercise, who knows, they may even want to join you! Finding supportive exercise spaces is also crucial!

  3. Feeling uncomfortable: Support networks go a long way to improving this, as well as finding an exercise that you feel comfortable doing, and a facility you feel comfortable doing it in.

  4. Lack of self-confidence: As with the two previous points, finding a support network and supportive environment will assist with this. Further to this, understanding your why can really help improve your confidence.

  5. Insufficient time: Use your calendar and treat your workouts like meetings. Schedule them in your calendar and make sure you don't miss them.

  6. Fear of injury: educate yourself on safe ways to conduct exercise, and if in doubt find a professional to work with to help you reach your goals in a safe way.

  7. Boredom: Change it up! Find new exercises, new sports, new classes to enjoy, keep experimenting until you find what you.

  8. Cost: Find a low cost gym or studio, find a free sports team, use free online resources, exercise at outdoor gyms or go for a walk or run.

Now these aren't foolproof and setbacks may still happen, but the key is to find what works for you! What are you biggest roadblocks in hitting your goals?
